RePicante was founded by Jesper Figge Thomsen in Barcelona, Spain. Having been a hobby baker, chef, and sauce-maker for years, inspired by his Nordic roots, Thomsen knew it was time to finally share his sauce with the world in 2020. The chili sauce was inspired by Thomsen's youth in Copenhagen, Denmark. At any local pizza or kebab establishment, you'll find a complimentary bowl of chili sauce on the table for customers to scoop and top on their meals. In Denmark, everyone knows that chili makes everything better. Thomsen felt that it was his life's purpose to bring this treasure to the shores of Barcelona. He started by making and distributing his chili sauce exclusively to his friends and beach volleyball mates. When people got the first taste of the chili sauce, they had either one of two reactions: 1. "This is incredible and I need another scoop now!" 2. "This is HOT! And I need some water quick! Because it's so delicious and I want to safely enjoy another scoop!" The world may be divided between two groups of people: those who can handle it, and those who are still developing their taste palette for the chili life. Thomsen found so much joy in bringing his sauce to people, that in 2020, he was inspired to bring more spice into the lives of the Barcelonians. Thus was born, RePicante.
